CYC Halftime Shooters hotter than Lady Bills

Saturday, January 28th was CYC Night at the St. Louis University vs Richmond Women's Basketball game at Chaifetz Arena.  The Lady Bills were cold all night long, as they couldn't hit their shots in the 45-63 loss to the Spiders.  However that did not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of over 100 CYCers that took advantage of Free and Discounted tickets to the game.  Two girls from Sacred Heart were featured in the "Bungee ShootOut" at one of the timeouts, and girls from St. Ferdinand and St. Albans volunteered to play a couple of halftime contests and pose with the SLU Billiken.  Check the CYC Nights Page (under the Events tab) of the CYC website to see what other CYC Nights are in the near future!

Baseball/Softball Spring Training is Right around the Corner

Believe it or not, Baseball/Softball in St. Louis is not that far away.  If you are a CYC Baseball coach we suggest you consider attending the FREE Baseball Clinic offered by St. Louis University High School Coach Steve Nicollerat in conjunction with the St. Louis Sports Commission.  This clinic is to help volunteer youth baseball and softball coaches prepare for a successful season.  This is the place for youth coaches to learn what and how to teach the sports of baseball and softball.  The clinic is:

Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 8:30am to 11:30am at SLUH in the Dannis Field House

Refs and Teammates as Good Sports!!

Officials can display Random Acts of Sportsmanship (RAS) too!  That was the case the first week of the basketball season when Sacred Heart played at St. Bridget.  The parents of the 3rd grade girls from Sacred Heart recognized the great sportsmanship displayed by the officials, Linda Watson and Josh Spuhls.  This was the first basketball game for most of the girls on the court.  The officials took time to explain their calls and help the girls better understand the game.  Basketball can be confusing and intimidating when you first start playing, but Linda and Josh insured these girls had a positive introduction to the game.

We usually think of players being good sports to their opponents, but it can be with teammates too.  Our Lady of Guadalupe 8th grade player, Marnae Brown demonstrated that at her game on Saturday, January 14th.  Teammate Chyna Moore had broken her leg in practice, but came in her wheelchair to cheer her teammates on.  Way to go Chyna.  After halftime, as the team went into their huddle for last minute instructions, Marnae asked her team to move the huddle over to where Chyna was sitting in her wheelchair, so she could be included.  Congrats to Marnae, Chyna and all the players on the Our Lady of Guadalupe 8th grade basketball team for showing great sportsmanship to your teammates.

We invite all CYC players, coaches, officials and all fans to e-mail Buzz detailing any and all the Random Acts of Sportsmanship (RAS) you see, to buzzswanston@archstl.org .   See a Good Sport and Be a Good Sport!
